Gypsy Joker found guilty over assault charges
23 Jun
A Western Australia District Court Judge has told a Gypsy Jokers club member,
who bashed two men outside a Kalgoorlie hotel last year, his actions were
cowardly and unjustified.
After five hours of deliberations, the Kalgoorlie jury found 38-year old Grant
Barrie guilty of two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Barrie was convicted for repeatedly kicking an off-duty police officer and his
brother-in-law outside the Exchange Hotel in January last year.
Judge Micheal Muller described the incident as a vicious attack on two helpless
victims.
Co-accused club member Dean Adams was acquitted of the same charges while
another man, Terance McComish, who was also charged, was found not guilty on one
count.
The jury failed to reach a verdict on the second charge.
