A PERTH nightclub has had its liquor licence suspended indefinitely
following an incident in which a bikie was stabbed in the neck and a rival
gang member was shot.
The West Australian Department of Racing, Gaming and
Liquor said today the liquor licence of the Metro City nightclub in
Northbridge would be suspended until the department was satisfied each
person directly or indirectly interested in the business was "a fit and
proper person".
A recent newspaper report revealed the Metro City nightclub – licensed under
the company name D Club Pty Ltd – was owned by Beautex Offshore Inc, a
syndicate registered in the British Virgin Islands.
Racing, Gaming and Liquor director general Barry Sargeant said club manager
and D Club company secretary Tony Grego had failed to provide information
about shareholdings in Beautex Offshore Inc, which was an offence under the
WA Liquor Licensing Act 1988.
Community Safety and Police Minister Michelle Roberts
today welcomed the suspension of Metro City's licence.
"I applaud this decision which puts nightclub owners
on notice that they must be accountable under the law," Ms Roberts said.
A Coffin Cheater motorcycle gang member and a member
of the street gang known as the Scorpion Boys are still before the courts on
charges related to the fight in the basement of the Metro City nightclub
last month.
