Rebels gang member arrested after Castlereagh attack

A high-ranking member of the Rebels Liverpool chapter has become the eighth member of the gang to be arrested and charged in relation to the kidnapping and assault of a man in May.

On Saturday May 10 2014, police were made aware of an incident where a 45-year-old man had allegedly been abducted and assaulted by a number of men.

The man was allegedly attacked outside a property in Castlereagh during the evening of Thursday May 8 2014, before he was taken inside the property, tied up and repeatedly assaulted.

On Saturday 10 May 2014, the man regained consciousness and escaped. He was treated for a number of injuries to his head, torso and limbs.

Detectives from State Crime Command’s Gangs Squad formed Strike Force Salsola to investigate the incident, arresting and charging seven members of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang in August.

Those arrested included high-ranking members from the Penrith and Liverpool chapters.

Yesterday Tuesday November 25, Gangs Squad detectives attended a facility at Goulburn and placed a 28-year-old man under arrest.

The high-ranking member of the Rebels Liverpool chapter was charged with special aggravated kidnapping and remains in custody to appear at Penrith Local Court on Wednesday December 10 2014.
