A GROUP of about 15 Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang members have been stopped by police before making their way through Toowoomba.

More than 20 officers scrambled to set up a checkpoint at the top of the Toowoomba Range on Burnage St about 8.25am.

Toowoomba City Patrol Group officer Inspector Mark Wheeler said licence checks, identity checks, random breath tests and motorcycle roadworthy checks were conducted on the bikies.

"It is a standard response when we receive information that outlaw motorcycle gang members are travelling through Toowoomba," Insp. Wheeler said.

Police had been tipped off the riders were heading west towards Toowoomba on the Warrego Hwy.

"They stand out very distinctly."

He said the riders were cooperative and no infringements were issued.

Some of the motorcycles had swags strapped onto them.

"They've clearly got some sort of meeting on.

"We believe they are heading west."  ( based on their direction of travel Einstein?)
