Motorbike and scooter riders
are the fastest-growing group of road users but Government policy has
not kept pace, Opposition spokesman for Roads Duncan Gay MLC has told
parliament.
Mr Gay said motorcycle numbers had grown by a third over the past five years - the largest increase in any mode of transport - yet motorcyclists where still treated as outsiders. E-tag nightmares, unfair tolling and inappropriate road repairs were all part of the out-of-date transport policy, Mr Gay told parliament. Worse, the total Government spend on motorcycle safety campaigns was $3 million since 2003. People were increasingly turning to motorbikes because of traffic congestion, parking paucity and petrol prices.
