S1 V12

After about year with no Jag I figured I could get as Series 1 V12 for about 5k. So I did. Beautiful old car, except for the blue seats....I eventually got it home after dodging Sydney Saturday traffic in a car that wouldn't idle, and wouldn't run......I will not be beaten so its up with the bonnet as soon as I got home

After a painful first drive home with smoke billows and general bad running on a busy Saturday arvo in Sydney traffic, I drained the fuel tanks, flushed with a garden hose then clean petrol. First improvement. However the car wouldn't go over 50mph, and felt fuel starved. After adjusting carbs, replacing sticking needle valve on one I put an accessory fuel pump in line with the reconditioned (by PO) pump and found an immediate improvement. Opting not to shell out $880.00 for 2 new jag pumps I bought the biggest Holley available, a 15lb 'blue" with regulator. However installing this wasnt too straightforward. There's the problem of the two tanks. I decided not to park sideways on hills, and linked em together.

The car had a leaking rear main seal, and about 40 other leaks so it was off to the shop. Engine and trans is out here, as well as rear suspension, for new caliper seals.

4.5k later, which was only 1.5 k over the quote! we're back on the road again and running sweet....

The series 2 parts car, looked ok, but full of rust

I eventually picked up a series 2 with this immaculate set of seats in it, and junked the rest.

I kept the car for about 2 1/2 years, but found it was just too much maintenance for a daily driver, or for that matter a weekend car. The carbs just didn't want to stay in tune. It was however a wonderful car to drive when it was running well. The suspension was firm but the ride was soft with the bigf70 series sidewall tires, and the V12 felt like it would run forever.

I'd picked up an XJS while I was working in Brisbane and between the two of them (soon to be three) it was never ending. I was determined to get something more modern again.
