Series 3

My next foray into the Jag world was a 1984 series 3, 6 cylinder,in bronze,  purchased/swapped with the aforementioned Victoria Road tea leaf, who I was seeing so often I developed a friendship with! Actually it was while I still had the green one, cos he wanted the spokes off the thing as part of the deal for buying a 450sel I had bought in Perth WA, and spent too much on, as interest rates soared towards 18%, and second hand car prices throttled hard the other way...

I was still learning not to buy personal import cars here. This one had no air-con, and was as hard to get any air into as the Rover 3500SD1 I'd first bought on arrival to Australia.

Twas a good car in winter.....

And the engine went south, well the rings anyway...after Id had the head done. Coming down from Bell in the Blue mountains, coasting down a long steep hill, I look in the rear view mirror and see nothing but smoke. Myself and a good mate pulled the engine and trans out, pulled the head and shipped the block off for new pistons, rings and whatever else was needed. Put it back together and all was right with the world. Yeah sure.

Damn thing ate the starter motor. The next one didn't sound much better. hoped it was a tight motor and waited for it to run in and loosen up. It got a little better but not much, and eventually I think my brother in law at the time sold it for me, as he had the green one.
